Rebates & Savings
Appliance manufacturers and local utilities regularly offer rebates that reduce the cost of a new appliance. Here is how they usually work.
Manufacturer rebates
Brands run seasonal promotions on selected models or on packages of several appliances bought together. Rebates are usually claimed online or by mail after the purchase, within a set deadline, and require the receipt and model and serial numbers.
Energy-efficiency incentives
Many utilities offer cash back for ENERGY STAR qualified refrigerators, washers, dryers and air conditioners, and sometimes for recycling an old working refrigerator or freezer.
Tips
- Check the promotion dates and the exact list of qualifying model numbers.
- Keep copies of everything you send in.
- Compare the price after rebate across several models - a slightly more efficient model can cost less overall.
